Why would i be having very sharp pains in my rectum. This occurs frequently and im a bit worried that there is a serious problem. I was violently raped anally and vaginally many years ago if that helps.

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

I am sorry to hear about your experience. In addition to the unspeakable violent emotional trauma, there is quite possibly residual physical damage to your colorectal area.

Possible causes of the very sharp pain are an anal fistula or colonic fistula. An anal fistula is an abnormal passage between the anus to the skin, sometimes communicating with the rectum. A colonic fistula is an abnormal passage between the colon with the body surface.

Consult a gastroenterologist, who can make the diagnosis with a physical exam and colonoscopy, if necessary.
