Tampon help??

Hi, so here's my problem: Earlier, I used a tampon for the first time. Going in I couldn't even feel it, but when I went to take it out, it hurt like..there's no word to describe the pain. Apparently now my hymen is (partially) ripped. Then, it still hurt. Not as agonizing as before....but not exactly painfree. Actually, it still hurt a LOT. Well, we found out that there was a "cord" holding back the tampon. And it was halfway "out" already, if you know what mean, so I couldn't sit down. Lucky me. Anyways..we finally (after 3 1/2 hours start to finish of the worst pain of my life) got the thing out. Well now I have a ripped hymen that is sensitive (even have to wipe around it when I "go"..) and some cord thing. My mom says I need to have a quick surgery for the cord. But now the hymen feels like a tampon that's just "hanging there". Aka really annoying and kind of painful. Any advice?

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  There should not be a reason to have problems inserting a tampon if you have your hymen.  The hymen is a thin membrane, with a half moon shape to allow menstrual flow through.  Some girls are born with a small opening in their hymen. It's best to see your doctor about this. Hope this was helpful?

Best,

Daisy
