When a person diets to lose weight, the first pounds lost are water weight. Thus, a person may lose the first few pounds quickly. Losing the fat takes longer.
Edema is swelling caused by excess fluid trapped in the body's tissues. This commonly occurs in the arms, hands,legs and feet. Edema may be mistaken for water weight. Medications called diuretics are prescribed to relieve edema.
Reducing the amount of salt in your diet relieves edema. Limiting sodium intake is good for your health and you may find that you can lose water weight as well.
