Q:

What happens if I miss one week of birth control pills? How long will it take for my body to adjust to the pill again?

Hello everyone,

I've been on Yasmin for about two years now, always took the pill on time. My question is this, I finished my period on Friday July 17th, on Sunday July 19th I was suppose to start a new pack of my active pill, however I was on vacation last week, and forgot my pills at home, and missed a whole week of my first week of active pills. When I got back, I started my first week of the pack on Sunday the 25th. I wanted to find out, will I be getting my period this coming up month, once I start taking the sugar pill? Will missing one week, and starting the new pack a week later mess up my body, and how long will it take for my body to adjust to the pill again? I'm not worried about getting pregnant, for I've been single for about two months, and not sexually active, I'm more worried about how long will it take for my body to get back on schedule with my periods and all. Thanks in advance for any inofmation you can share with me.

If I missed my pills for a week (same situation as banditka), should I start my pack of yasmin pills from beginning or a week in?

Hi, this is my exact situation that I have been stressing so bad over! I am on Lo Loestrin & had my period May 16th, middle of my 4th week. I had a pharmacy error & had to miss a week of pills, (my doc was out of town & couldn't resolve issue until back from vacation.) So I started again on May 27th. I missed a pill that week, took it the next morning, & then have been on schedule since. My period is due, but hasn't come, & even on birth control, my periods come every 2 weeks or so. this is only my 2nd month on this pill, so I'm stressing over whether my period is late because I started the birth control late, or weather it is because I might be pregnant. I have a 10 month old daughter, & were planning on trying in December for baby #2, so this wouldn't be terrible, I'm just worried about why my body is so messed up. I have been tired, but I normally am, I have a baby. & no appetite, only reason I convince myself to eat is because I'm still nursing (not exclusively) she eats tons of normal food. Is stressing over it making my period late too?? Thoughts or comments from anyone would be greatly appreciated!!

I have been taking birth control for about a year and half. I had my last cycle on the 17th of march. My BF and I had unprotected sex a few times on the 23rd. I was to start my new pack on the 25th. I was out of town, so I did not start until the 1st of April and we had sex again on that day...a few times. Could I have gotten pregnant or is it all in my head?

This is normal. Missing pills can cause bleeding or spotting between periods. Remember to keep taking your pills every day, at the same time – even if you are spotting or bleeding.

I myself have done the same thing with forgetting the pill, doubling up and forgetting again, I have been the pill for about 8 years you would think I would have it down by now, I just get so busy and before I know it I'm in bed falling alseep and no pill. Anyway, nothing has happened to me (knock on wood).

Hi, I just came across this post while looking for some info online. I similarly was off birth control for one week after finishing a pack and started again the following Sunday with a new pack. I am married and sexually active, so my question is how long do I need to be using a second form of protection after being off birth control pills for one week?

Most birth control pills say that you need to use an alternate form of birth control for at least 7 days after your missed pills. It may tell you in your patient information leaflet that comes with your pill pack (be sure to keep at least one copy!), and would be listed under "missing 3 or more pills".
