Do you dread the thought of doing housework after a long busy day....or any day for that matter? I know I do!
In an recent interview with actress, comedian Annabelle Gurwitch, I learned that some woman are actually getting a boost or shall I say spark when doing their daily chores.
Check out our interview below:
Q. Most women dread housework. What can be done to make it less of a chore?
AG: I think I’m like most women: I tend to dread housework. But then I read this study from Liquid Plumr, and it says that 49% of women actually feel like they’re more inclined to want to be intimate if they’ve done their household chores. And I thought, “What? Is this really possible?” And I tried it and it really worked; I have to say that I think I know why. I think it’s like exercise. I tend to be a procrastinator. I put it off, put it off, and it just builds, and the tension builds up in my head. But if I actually do it, I’m always so much happier and I’m more relaxed; and it’s the same thing with housework. I check it off my list, I’m relaxed, and then I feel romantic. There’s definitely a connection.
Q. What chores are more likely to cause daydreams, and what do women dream about while doing housework?
AG: This survey from Liquid Plumr found that 1/3 of women are fantasizing about being intimate with their spouse while they’re doing household chores. And I have to admit: once I get to the cleaning I really do enjoy the time to think. I get a lot of my best ideas for writing while I’m cleaning. And I also get some romantic ideas. I have to admit: I’m in that 1/3. Because it sort of relaxes me, doing that repetitive chore; its like “unclog your drain, unclog your mind”. There’s definitely a drain-mind connection. I live in a house that has 70-year-old plumbing, and so I think you can use your imagination as to which of the chores requires the most mind/brain time and need the most attention.
Q. Oftentimes woman listen to music as they do housework. Do you think the sweet melodies contribute to women daydreaming?
AG: Oh, I am all for having your housework done with a soundtrack. There should be a mix tape that you make for household chores. And if someone can come up with it send it to me because I’m not good at making those tapes, but I love them. In fact, you know what? I’m going to ask my husband, because he programs my iPod for me, to make me a housework mix tape. That’s a great idea. I’m gonna do that.
Q. A lot of women today are too tired for romance because they work outside of the home and are responsible for all the household chores as well. Do you have any advice on how they can best balance it all?
AG: You know, I think women get tired because we really do try to do it all. We’re working outside our house, plus the majority of us are still in charge of things at home. One thing that I’m doing this year, it’s sort of my New Year’s Resolution, is to make my daily list a little shorter. So, if I make my list of career goals and also my household goals smaller and more manageable, as I check them off it’s a lot more satisfying. I actually get more done that way. I say try making your list shorter, more do-able, and you’ll feel better when you accomplish it.

I actually love doing housework, organizing and cleaning :) I know it's strange, but it puts me in a better mood. Just this morning I went on a organizing kick at the EmpowHER office!
Would love it if my housework and organizing had a soundtrack!
