VIDEO: Dr. McLucas - Fibroids, How Do They Grow?

Dr. McLucas describes how uterine fibroids grow.

Dr. McLucas:
If you look at the inside of the arterial blood system to the uterus, and I do that almost every day when I do a fibroid embolization, there’s a big difference in the caliber of the blood vessels. They’re smaller vessels that go to the walls of the uterus, whereas a much larger blood supply going to the fibroids. The fibroids have a way of attracting its own blood supply so they can grow more rapidly than the uterus.

When we put in these particles, through one of the laws of physics, it’s going to go to the place that’s closer to a super highway than a country lane, and all of the fibroids in the body share that common characteristic. So the fibroids are going to get embolized whether they’re large, small, or medium- sized, whereas the rest of the uterus has a what we call in medicine, a collateral circulation, a circulation from other arteries and it continues to be healthy.
