Michael Jackson and How To Deal With the Grief Of a Generation

June 28, 2009 - 10:17am 170 reads 1 comments

I love to dance and I love music. Music has always been part of my life and it colors my experiences, making them more vibrant and memorable. Thursday evening, when I turned on the news to hear about Michael Jackson’s untimely death, it shocked me. Then the reports, music video clips and sounds about his music caused my mind to remember his genius and how he has impacted the world.

Yes he is a genius! Music and dance were where he had genius, and people all over the world found love and happiness experiencing his genius. I was saddened by his death and at the same time I couldn't help but smile and dance when I was able to listen to his music and watch the videos. It is wonderful to be able to celebrate someone's life and really feel good about remembering how someone has impacted who you have become.

The subject of death and dying is something that people avoid. It usually is associated with sadness and grief. Seeing all of the celebration of Michael Jackson’s life gave me pause to think about how we can create joy when we are faced with grief and death. Remembering the wonderful impacts that someone brings you in life always uplifts you in the moment and creates a spiritual connection that creates love and health in your every cell. Our natural tendency is to look at what we have to give up in losing the person. My suggestion is to focus on the celebration of how your life was enhanced with the presence of someone who has a genius that they have shared with you for however long they were with you.

Be blessed, and I wish Michael Jackson and all those who loved him and his music peace!
