Dr. Russell shares the percentage of people in the United States considered medically obese.
Dr. Russell:
In the U.S. as a whole, roughly 30% of the population is obese. There are certain differences within those populations where it’s typically African-American women and perhaps women of other ethnic backgrounds are more obese.
About Dr. Russell, M.D.:
Dr. George V. Russell, M.D., earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Denison University in 1988 and his M.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1992. He subsequently completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic residency at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then completed an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Washington. Dr. Russell was formerly Assistant Professor in both the Orthopedic Trauma and Physician Assistant Studies at the University of South Alabama in Mobile before joining our department in October of 2000. He has authored or co-authored many published articles and presents both nationally and internationally on his specialty of orthopedic trauma.
