Dr. Archelle Georgiou: Hi, I am Dr. Archelle Georgiou and this is HER Health Minute.

As a physician, ovarian cancer is one of the conditions that I fear most because too often by the time it is diagnosed it is already metastasized. Unfortunately there is no prevention for ovarian cancer and there’s not a blood test that can diagnose it early. The best thing women can do is know the symptoms.

Pay attention if:

1. You have ongoing abdominal or pelvic pressure, fullness, swelling or bloating, even if it is mild.

2. If you feel like you have lost your appetite or feel full after eating what used to be a normal-size meal.

3. If you are tired and have low energy even when you get enough rest. See a doctor even if these symptoms aren’t severe enough, but you have a nagging feeling that something just isn’t right.

The bottom line – listen to your body. Take responsibility for living a healthy life.
