If anyone suffers from this, PLEASE contact me!! I've been having bladder and urinary pain for months. My urologist doesn't think I have Interstitial Cystitis, but I do have Trigonitis. I can't find any information on this. PLEASE HELP!!

Sorry to disappoint you, but antibiotics wont help. Been there, done it. I have posted in the past about CYCYSTAT. You wont be able to find anything over the internet, but ask your urologist about it. It's a medication via urethra. You need a few weekly sessions of it. But it's really the only long term or permanent thing that works. I wish you luck.

Hey LHS, thanks so much for joining EmpowHer.com. We've passed your post along to a urologist and hope to have an answer for you in a few days. And you should be able to receive an alert in your e-mail box when someone responds to your post. Will you let me know if you receive one? Thanks!

After writing the above message as Anonymous, I joined this board and hope to give and receive information. My doctor is a urologist and mentioned trigonitis as being a relative of IC. He did all his tests, made his diagnosis, and when I need help, I go see the nurse and get an injection of Furacin or DMSO straight into my bladder. I'm supposed to hold it in for an hour but very often the urgency is so great I have to go to the bathroom before the hour is up. If I have an infection they give me antibiotics. I asked my family doctor about the diagnosis and he explained about the Trigone and inflammation. I still don't know what the relationship is to infection but I'm guessing the trigonitis makes it so painful to urinate, the fluid backs up in my bladder and causes an infection. (Will someone tell me how to read the replies I get to my posts?) My condition is no better but no worse than before.

I've been reading these posts with interest. I am 70 years old and started having bladder infections after being in the hospital and having a catheter for 3 days. It was cleaned only once. I was very very sick. After 3 infections in just a few months, my dr. sent me to a urologist. He diagnosed trigonitis but he didn't explain it very well. I'm not sure I understand the relationship between trigonitis and infection. The last time I went, I had the pain and burning symptoms but no infection. A week later I came up with a terrible infection. Can someone explain "treatments" and cauterizing the bladder and these other terms? I'm just afraid trigonitis is a precursor to cancer.

Trigonitis is very confusing to understand, so you are not alone! Let us see if we can find some information for you.

I will do some research, but what I have found is that "trigonitis" may be a term that has many synonyms and/or similarities to other conditions. I am not sure if your doctor said anything about Interstitial Cystitis, but here is some information on IC (with a synonym of "trigonitis"): Interstitial Cystitis.

One other site did mention trigonitis as a separate condition, and I will ask one of our medical experts to clear up the confusion for us, so we can understand if IC and Trigonitis are the same or different; help us understand what causes trigonitis, its association with infection as well as if it can be a precursor to cancer, and what treatment options are available.

In the meantime, can you tell us more what your doctor said about your treatment options? Is your doctor a specialist (and, if so, in what area?).

We'll be back soon with more information.

I was diagnosed with Trigonitis in July of 2009 (this year). The urologist that I went to see told me that this is curable. His course of action included antibiotics (Macrobid...but I take the generic Nitrofur) for 4 months, and to also undergo argyrol treatments. ( I have tried googling this and have no luck finding info on it.) From what I understand it is like an antiseptic that starts to heal the inflammed area of the trigone. It's dark in color and kind of resembles motor oil. To do this procedure they use a catheter and insert the argyrol directly into the bladder. You then leave it in there for upto an hour. I was told to do 6 treatments. (once a wk for six's weeks). It is now September and I have finished my treatments. I do not feel cured, but I notice a HUGE difference instead of it bothering me 7 days a week; It bothers me 2 times a week. I have to schedule a follow up appointment in a month to discuss further treatments if needed. I know I have searched the internet countless times trying to find information on this..symptoms...treatments...ect. So that I could compare them to my own, but always come up with nothing. My symptoms include the feelings of a bladder infection. I feel like I have to go pee but very little comes out, but the main symptom is Urethral burning. Not only does it burn while I am peeing, it continues to burn for hours afterwards. I feel like this treatment method has help me considerably, and so if this information can help someone get relief I am glad to post this. Consider asking your urologist about argyrol treatments, and I will keep you all posted and let you know how things turn out.

Just curious about the Argyrol treatment, have you continued and does it seem to be resolving the issue?

Hi, I have had these treatments as well. Trust me they work, but over a long term period. You will soon see as time passes, eventhough you may have finished the treatments you will feel better. You may need 3 follow up treatments which i suggest, but you will feel perfect soon. Sometimes it sort of does burn after urinating, but that will also go away. It's the only treatment that works. Pills do nothing. This is a wonder therapy. Trust me. I will be going for more treatments myself. Keep you posted.
