If anyone suffers from this, PLEASE contact me!! I've been having bladder and urinary pain for months. My urologist doesn't think I have Interstitial Cystitis, but I do have Trigonitis. I can't find any information on this. PLEASE HELP!!

Well, my treatments for trigonitis have been argyrol. My urologist prescribed 10 weekly therapies, then one therapy per month for 10 months. Just so you know, argyrol takes some time to kick in. I felt better after every period. It's a slow process but it works. If you see that after the six treatments you still don't feel better, maybe you can (when you get insurance again) some more treatments. Besides the urologist who found the problem, (I can say he is one of the best doctors I have ever met, and I owe him my sanity), the doc who actually does the therapies is usually an intern. Well it turns out that this intern is doing his research on trigonitis!!! He wants to interview me for symptoms, what I feel etc. I know that the main culprit of trigonitis believe it or not is chlamydia. That's the first thing they look for on this side of the globe ( I am in Europe). You can read stuff about chlamydia and the one thing you will never find is that it causes urethritis (inflammation of the urethra) plus the trigonitis that accompanies it. So at this hospital, before any sort of therapy, you get a pap test, a vaginal secretion culture for any other bacteria,' a urine test, and if all is clear you are ready to go.Antibiotics DO NOT treat trigonitis. You can take bags and bags and see no difference. Argyrol is probably the only thing that helps. This doc told me about a new research with antibiotics (claripen), one every 2 days for 10 weeks. When I see him in a couple of weeks for our interview I will get all the information possible. Argyrol has 80% effectiveness from what I have learned. It actually hits the spot, since it's inserted into your bladder, but like I said it takes time. It's like having a wound. It takes some time to heal even after putting on creams or band daids or what not. My symptoms just so you know, don't have anything to do with urgency or pain while urinating, but it feels rather like I have sand paper lodged up my perinium. When sitting or lying down im fine, when walking around it feels like the sand paper is sanding me down. I don't know if anyone can relate. Now trigonitis is really annoying because that specific place has a lot of nerve endings so it triggers pain back front, and just around the area in general. It's more annoying uncomfortableness rather than actual pain. After the treatments I see that the sand paper is getting smaller and smaller and causing less and less annoyance. This is over a period of a couple of months though. Anyways, when I get all the information I need I will post it. I congratulate this young doctor, since we both agreed that many many women suffer from this and so many of them just don't know what is going on with their body. I am up for a cystoscopy next week as well just to see where the inflammation is at. It feels like it's smaller, but not gone. I don't understand why some docs believe that the trigone should have a cobblestone appearance. It shouldn't. It should be smooth, and clear. cobblestone appearance means inflammation in any organ. I think that docs who have no clue on the subject use this as an excuse. And believe me girls I have bumped into many docs who are absolutely clueless. There is hope. You will not feel like this forever. Life is too short to suffer. I have become so obsessed with this subject that Im even willing to sit in on seminars where trigonitis is concerned, and this is mainly to help all the women out there who are suffering from it. I will be back with more information once I have it. Good luck to you all, and sorry for the long email.

How are you doing Leanne...I've had trigonitis for over 10 yrs that I know of... got first cystoscopy 10 yrs ago to get the diagnosis..so may have had it longer...anyways...at first the Dr. prescribed 6 mos of macrodantin therapy..after seeing the white patches on the lining of my bladder..eventually the lining did return to a nice healthy pink color..so antibiotic therapy did work in my case...however...the trigonitis does return..so it seems it's not a cure...but something to keep it under control, as long as I'm taking macrodantin...and I think the white patches have returned even with the macrodantin..not sure..seems to develop a resistance ?

Peace

Hi, Im really sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. Trust me I have been through it and know exactly how you feel. Unfortunately many docs are useless. I had dealt with so many in the past and it wasn't until i went to a public hospital over here in Greece where the problem was dealt with. Antibiotics will not heal the trigonitis. Sorry but its the truth. Chlamydia does cause it but you can get rid of the chlamydia but are stuck with the trigonitis. The only thing that works are the treatments directly to the bladder..The treatments are not antibiotic but the solution is actually hydraulaunic acid. That heals everything. Anyways you need to do weekly therapies and then some monthly therapies. It takes a while to kick in though. Maybe a couple of months until you actually start feeling better. But trust me it works. Dont spend any more money on this where other treatments are concerned. It's a waste. These treatments if you do it on your own, over here in Greece cost about 250 EURO per time. Otherwise if your insurance covers it then your in luck, but you have to find a good urologist. There isn't that much info out there on the causes of trigonitis but chlamydia is one of them. You wont read it anywhere and most gynos are clueless about trigonitis. As i mentioned above I have talked to many specialists on the subject. I know you feel like a your life is over, the pain is unbelievable, and pain that you try to explain and the docs look at you like you are psychotic. Have you heard the it's psychological. Your nuts. Get off the anti depressants, and find someone in the UK, maybe I can ask over here if they know of some hospital that does the treatments over there. Anyways, I am near cured, finally!!!! It's tough feeling like crap, looking like crap, not being able to wear jeans for 8 months. Sorry but im not a firm believer in omeopathic methods. Any questions you may have just ask. The symptoms suck i know, and your life stops for a while but there is a cure, I will help you find it somehow. I have an appointment Friday the 16th for a monthly treatment. I will ask for you what your options are over there.Take care and hang in there. You are not sick just know that. Think of it as having a wound that needs some special med to go away, that's all. You can't give it to someone, and im sure sex is the last thing on your mind right now, but just thought i would tell you that it's not catchy since you are bacteria free (very important).

Until next time, hang in there. Advil helps the pain a bit, just to get through the night.

Leanne,
Thank you so much for the helpful information! I'm happy to hear that your symptoms are improving everyday, and we would love to hear more about your interview with the doctor, and to continue hearing about treatment options that women have.

I just got diagnosed with this & am in the process of clarifying whether the terms are interchangeable IC vs trigonitis. Im currently being treated with a prophylactic Macrobid 100mg antibiotic treatment for 3months to prevent further UTIs since I was having 1 each month for the last 4months

Hi Anon - Since a wide variety of terms are used to describe bladder conditions and symptoms it can be confusing. IC (interstitial cystitis) and trigonitis are different.

Here's what the Interstitial Cystitis Network says:
IC can be easily confused with many different bladder diseases, such as a UTI, because the symptoms of frequency, urgency and/or pain are common to most bladder conditions.
Trigonitis patients may experience similar symptoms of frequency, urgency and/or pain. Trigonitis is diagnosed when physicians discover that the trigone (a triangular portion of the bladder that contains the openings for both the ureters and the urethra) appears inflamed and/or has a "cobblestone like" appearance. Some urologists don't believe in trigonitis because they believe that the cobblestone appearance is normal to the trigone. Others believe that an inflammation of the trigone may have a direct role in urethral syndrome.

Hi there girls,
I am from Australia, and have just found this thread as I was looking at some new ideas on how I can get some relief from my Trigonitis which I have had for 15 years. After a hysterectomy, there were surgical errors which meant that I needed to have a stent inserted into my ureter while damage healed. The tail on the stent which went into my bladder caused me great pain and discomfort from the moment It was inserted - this I am sure caused my trigonitis as symptoms occurred then. I have had two diathermies which I must say was very successful as the ulceration was over a large area, and the second time the ulcer was much smaller. I probably need to go and see a urologist again but am very scared to see a new one as my old urologist has since stopped practising (he was so understanding) I am now looking for some non invasive alternatives if thats possible. Trigonitis is an all body condition as when there are flare ups I get flu like symptoms as well as a temp pain and discomfort and micro blood in the urine. As the lady above said sneezing is dangerous simply because of the pain it causes if you don't' brace yourself. I have never talked to anyone else who suffers from this condition so I am very happy to have come across this site.I know that I will have to get the courage to see another urologist soon as When one has trigonitis the chance of bladder cancer increases (or that is what my old urologist told me )So ladies go and get that cystoscope done just to be on the safe side.

Hi Clonte and welcome to EmpowHER! I'm glad you found us. I'm sorry you've never been able to talk with anyone else dealing with Trigonitis, and am sure there are many others who've had the same experience. You could be a valuable resource for others - in fact, you already have been through your comments. I hope you will provide more contributions down the road.
Take care, Pat
