Great article online in New York Times titled, "Reinventing Date Night for Long-Married Couples".

Basically, research shows that if a couple has to choose from one of the following to do together:

a) Enjoy a romantic dinner together at their favorite restaurant in a nice, relaxing, comfortable atmosphere
b) Enjoy a corn dog at the nearest amusement park, after attempting the "You'll Wish You Had Stayed Home After Riding This Ride!" upside-down roller coaster

Those that chose "b" (or something like it, ha ha,) ...reported greater marital satisfaction than those that chose "a".

The article is a good read; it talks about reinventing date night and doing something different; novel...and in turn, you will feel refreshed and excited to be with your partner. Happy Valentine's Day!

Great topic, Alison!

I'd pick the roller coaster any day (or a bungee jump or a sky dive!)

Doing something new or novel is great. We don't do that enough because finding a sitter is next to impossible and at their hourly rate, you can barely afford dinner and a movie!

But you remind me to change our rare 'dates'. Once this dreadful winter is over, and we have a sitter, we will go kayaking instead of to lunch. Or to a comedy show instead of out to dinner.

Good points, thanks for making me think a bit more! It's too easy to get into the swing of being monotonous! With just a little effort, we can all shake things up a bit.
