I am getting a hysterectomy. Should I have my appendix removed also?

A long time ago, this was sometimes practiced! But that is no longer the case. 

You did not mention anything about having an unhealthy appendix. Some people experience a ruptured appendix which is extremely painful and dangerous but there is absolutely no need to have your appendix removed ("just in case") if it is healthy. Adding on an unnecessary procedure while under going another procedure is not a particularly good idea. In fact, it has been suggested that you are more likely to have a complication from the removal that from leaving the appendix in. 

Did someone suggest this to you or did you read up on something that suggested this was something to consider? You can talk to your doctor about it (they sometimes take a look at the appendix to see if it's healthy) but have a definite plan before having the hysterectomy.
