My girlfriend told me this is a real medical condition that affects middle age and older women. I think I have this and would like to know more about it. Thank you for any information you can provide.

Anon - Thanks for your question. Yes, some medical professionals treat a medical condition they have named depressed desire disorder. This deals with the physiological and psychological causes of low sex drive (or libido) in women. At some point in a woman’s life, she may experience what’s called female sexual dysfunction. It is marked by a woman’s inability to be aroused or maintain arousal, pain during intercourse, inability to orgasm and low sex drive. We have a special page set up about this topic as well as the various solutions under consideration, including a possible medication for women.
