I became very curious one day when I went to the grocery store. I noticed all these new drinks that provide vitamins, electrolytes and seemed appealing. What is the difference I thought?
There is Vitamin Water, there is Life Water and then Gatorade, the drink of champions! We all know the commercials....
We are all told to watch our calorie intake, right? So, I looked at the percentages on the bottles of these drinks and found that most are 50 calories. Oops, wait, 50 calories per serving....there are 2.5 servings per bottle. WOW! Did you know how many calories are in a can of soda? 150!
Vitamin water is fortified with various vitamins and other additives, including a sweetener that adds calories to the drink. I have decided, if you don't care for plain water, try 'bubbly' water or a hint of lemon or cranberry juice in your water. Less calories!!!

Keep in mind that Gatorade, and similar sports drinks, are really meant to replace electrolytes expended through physical exertion, like a run, hard workout, or whatever. If you're not sweating out your electrolytes, you really haven't lost anything that needs replacing.
Personally, I'd rather make my own juice than drink stuff made from concentrate (I have a juicer and citrus reamer); but, sometimes, it's just more convenient to buy the concentrate.
We also almost always have tonic water on hand, instead of sodas, and we like to make our own Italian "soda" (basically tonic water and lemonade or pomegranate juice). It's also good in iced, fresh ginger tea (brewed with fresh ginger).

My friend introduced me to this drink, with mixing half water spritzer with half 100% juice, and it is filling and gives me the carbonation that I "crave", with the sweetness I "crave" without too much artificial sweeteners.
I also do not need the added electrolytes found in Gatorade, with the added calories.

miscortes, Thanks for sharing your discovery. After reading this thread I moved over to drinking bubbly water or 'water with gas' as they call it in some parts of the world, too. Some people may need it for their different energy needs, but I definitely don't fall into that category. Thanks again.
