The National Academy of Sciences recently published a report showing that people who spend time or money helping others are happier and less likely to be depressed. For the study, brain activity of the participants was monitored by MRI scans as they made certain decisions.

Great information. For those interested in finding out more about volunteer opportunities in your area, check out this link. One of the points in the article that stood out for me is that ours is a culture where we value getting something over giving something. This shows that you can do both.
