I agree that physicians appear to have an in and out policy with their patients and my advise is to seek another physician. I am very sorry to hear that you feel that you are nothing but another number just as many of us do.

Here is an explanation for you regarding your white blood cell count. First, your white blood cells are your number one germ fighting mechanism in your body. When your body has a high white blood cell count it means your body is creating more to try and fight off an infection. If your counts are low, your are susceptible to infectious diseases.

There is the generic explanation.

There are so many different explanations for your blood count. Do you have any other symptoms? What made you suspect that there was something wrong to seek medical attention? If you can provide more background, I am sure we could help you out more.

As a lupus (SLE) patient, myself, all I can say is that you need to be your own best advocate and insist that your doctor explain things to you in layman terms. If you do have RA, t's likely you'll be referred to a Rheumatologist.

Lupus is not the easiest condition to diagnose, and the arthritis associated with lupus is not necessarily RA. Here's some information from the Lupus Foundation to help you understand lupus.

Gary,

What happens next? What was your doctor's recommendation? Are you on medications for the pain, and do you feel that they manage your pain well enough? Are you able to exercise at all? How can we most help you?
