Clearly you are fabulous. Even if you aren't going around proud as a peacock, you must know on some level that there are things about you that are fabulous. I am sure there are acts of kindness you show. I know there are things about who you are that are just amazing. I bet you have accomplished a lot too. But here's my question to you: Do you ever think about these awesome aspects of you? I call them your WINS. It's the things you are doing right, and the choices you make that boost how you feel about yourself. We all have a tendency to focus more on the things we want to change about ourselves more so than we focus on all the things we are getting right. The irony is, when you spend some time thinking about your wins you get motivated to have more wins. Positive thoughts lead to more positive thoughts. Accomplishments fuel more accomplishments. Momentum builds more momentum. Put simply: Change happens naturally when it comes from a positive place.
What are your wins about who you are? Are you kind to people? Do you do small acts of kindness on a regular basis? Are you cheerful? Friendly? Do you smile? These might seem like small things but actually they can be big to someone else. You never know what a smile at a stranger can do to change their day or improve their mood. But you also need to recognize these positive traits about you. When you take a moment to notice that you are authentic with people, genuinely kind, generous, it builds your self-perception and your confidence. You will be thinking more positive so in turn, you will feel more positive. Plus, when you take a second and think about how you are a good person, it reminds you in the middle of your crazy busy life to continue to do kind acts and be a warm person. Just as what gets tracked, gets improved ... what gets noticed gets improved.
What are your wins in terms of accomplishments? Practice noticing your wins. Feed your mind and your body positive thoughts and watch how doing so results in an improved outlook and even more positive experiences coming your way. Try writing down your wins on a piece of paper. What things have you already done that you are proud of? Write down anything that comes to mind, whether it's a physical activity like running a 5K, an accomplishment as a parent or an accomplishment with your business or career. Brainstorm. Keep a running list of your accomplishments around to read every so often. I am willing to bet you are going to be surprised at your long list. The problem isn't that we haven't accomplished amazing things, it's that life moves so fast sometimes, we never slow down to pay attention to them. You will love how you feel when you carve out some of your precious time to open your eyes to amazing you!
As a fitness trainer and health coach, I am all about goals. I help people set specific goals about their health all the time, but you don't want to ONLY focus on what you need to change. Put more focus on what you are getting right and build from there. You don't want to send yourself the message that you always need to change, it's not good for your self-image. Maybe exactly what you need is to just notice how fabulous you already are!
