In June, 2009, Science Daily reported that “A new study connects abnormalities of the "stress" hormone cortisol with symptoms of depression in obese children, and confirms that obesity and depression often occur together, even in children.”

H1N1 and being overweight: You are more at risk for swine flu complications, hospitalization

We’re learning as we go with this new flu.

We already know how it attacks young children and pregnant women. But a study released today of the first 16 weeks of the H1N1 swine flu now shows a new, highly vulnerable population: People who are very overweight.

Obesity and Kidney Health

Two recent studies, one from Britain and one from Japan, report a correlation between obesity and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The British report is accompanied by an editorial comment that more than a billion people worldwide suffer from overweight and obesity. There has been a sharp rise in both obesity and CKD in recent years. A direct causality link has not been established, but appears highly likely, according to the British authors.
