Sub-Conditions
The sole purpose of the parathyroid glands is to control calcium levels in the body. These four tiny organs sit next to the thyroid near the "adam's apple" and secrete parathyroid hormone (PTH). Too much PTH (hyperparathyroidism) or too little PTH (hypothyroidism) can affect bones, muscles and nerves.
