The pituitary is a small but important gland at the base of the brain. It secretes hormones like ACTH to stimulate the adrenal glands, FSH to stimulate the ovaries, and HGH (human growth hormone) to affect growth and energy use (metabolism). Additional pituitary hormones affect the thyroid, kidney and breast.
