Dr. Patel:

After the diagnosis of lung cancer, it is important to find out what stage of disease you have because that will change your next step significantly. If you have early stage disease, you need to go to a surgeon who has expertise in lung surgery. If your cancer has already metastasized, then you want to go to a center in which patients have access to clinical trials or can be seen by a multi-modality group.
