Glynis explains the career change her breast cancer diagnosis initiated.
Glynis:
The blessing with breast cancer is it did really make me re-evaluate my career and so, what I am doing now is, I own the Urban Tea Loft, along with my husband Eric, and the way that we started to own the Urban Tea Loft is when I was going through chemotherapy, I asked my oncologist what I could do to make sure I didn’t have a re-occurrence and he said, “I don’t know. Drink more green tea.” And so we took that to heart, literally.
So we ran off to the grocery store, got the green tea, steeped it all wrong, steeped it like it was the black tea and it was disgusting. I couldn’t drink it. And so, Eric and I then became educated and we found out that the World Tea Expo was happening in Los Vegas and we went to the World Tea Expo, actually became certified in tea. I actually did.
Now both Eric and I are certified in tea from the Specialty Tea Institute and as we were walking through and talking to tea vendors and tea garden owners from countries of origin, I looked at Eric and I said, “This is what we should really do,” and he said, “You’re right, make it happen.”
And so, I wrote a business plan and the rest is history. We have been open for 11 months now.
