Glynis shares if she was worried she might get breast cancer because her mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Glynis:
Absolutely not. I felt like I was young. I had nothing to fear. I was relatively healthy. I had never been, you know, diagnosed with any type of long-term illness in all my life. I was taking the medical precautions that people tell you to take. I started getting mammograms when I was 26 years old against the advice of my doctors. They told me there was no need to do that.
So once a year, I was getting mammograms. I was checking myself sporadically. Not as seriously every month as I needed to because again I felt, I am young. I am getting the mammograms. They’ll catch anything that’s wrong.
Well, right before I was diagnosed, in January of 2002, I had just had a mammogram in March of 2001 and so, I was going to be scheduled to have another mammogram in March 2002 and had I not found the lump in November, I would have just been proliferating the problem by waiting, you know, an extra three months to get a diagnosis that could have been, at that time, more terminal or fatal even.
