Janice Taylor, "Our Lady of Weight Loss," shares how others, including her mother and mother-in-law, reacted to her dramatic weight loss.
Janice:
I lost 55 pounds. Even people who don’t really know you but they see you every day, you’ve changed their world. People don’t like change. Something in their world has shifted. So it’s a subtle thing for people, so people who are close to you, their worlds have really shifted.
So, I got rid of all my fat clothes, and my mother-in-law said, “Well, what are you going to do when you gain it all back?” Thanks for the vote of confidence! My mother who is 92, I adore my mother and I take videos of her and put them on my blog and you can expect, if you know my mother you would expect this thing, that she is looking at me across the room, and she is looking and she says, “You know how people lose a lot of weight and their face hangs? You don’t look so bad.” Thanks, Mom!
And then I did have a couple of neighbors over the course of time who didn’t really know me that well come up to me and asked me was I okay. “Are you okay?” because they thought I had some kind of illness. “Are you okay? You’re losing weight. Are you okay?” and, like, it was just so weird.
So I sorted it, I went home and I said, “Do I look sick? Do I look okay?” Then I realized that I was just changing their world.
