Janice Taylor, "Our Lady of Weight Loss," shares at what age she first realized she was fat.
In second grade, I am sure I knew I was fat when I was three, but this is just a really strong memory of being, feeling the humiliation of being fat, was in second grade in school nurse you get weighed in and measured and I am dating myself, but back in the day when I was in second grade, the little girls would make a line, and you would be in your underwear and get on the scale and there would be somebody who would be weighing you and yelling out the number, and that’s how I know I was 112 pounds, and that’s really what stays in my head.
So get on the scale and in second grade how much do the other kids weigh? What do you weigh, 60 or 70 pounds? I am like twice your size, but happily, Beverly weighed 113, and that’s in my book. Sorry Beverly, she was the fat one and I was saved from the humiliation of being the fattest by one pound. But that’s, I mean, what a horrible thing to do to kids.
