Hi everyone! As you've probably noticed, you can't pick up a magazine or newspaper or visit a website without reading about H1N1, otherwise known as the swine flu. A lot of my friends have told me they are going to get a flu shot this year for the first time because of the swine flu, even though they are not in one of the suggested groups that get it for sure (like nurses, young kids, etc.). So I was wondering--how many of you are going to get a flu shot this year? If you are, is it because of the swine flu or do you get one every year? For those of you who are passing on it, what made you decide not to get it? I look forward to reading your replies!

It's even more of a decision this year because there will be two different flu shots -- one for the seasonal flu, which is the flu that they expect to be prevalent each winter, and another for the swine flu. The seasonal flu shots became available in some areas of the country today. The swine flu (H1N1) shots won't be available for another month or so.

I haven't had flu shots in the past, and probably won't this year. I tend to be more susceptible to winter colds (ugh) than the flu (knock on wood). But I admit that the swine flu possibility gave me something new to think about. If I was in one of the recommended groups I would probably give it serious thought, even though it seems to be a relatively mild strain of flu for most people.
