Q:

How can I combat post-gallbladder-removal belly fat and weight gain during menopause?

Hello, in October 2008 I was well into menopause but had no real issues with belly fat or overall weight gain. Then I had my gallbladder removed due to painful attacks of my common bile duct, as well as gallstones. I am appalled at the weight I have gained since the surgical procedure. In fact it is so upsetting (none of my clothes fit) that I feel at times clinically depressed. I've never had to fight weight gain before. Now I have an "unsupportive spine" as well, and must take occasional bouts of oral steroids to control the inflammation. I also have had two spinal epidural steroid injections, and wonder if these injections could cause me to gain weight. Any comments would be most welcome. Thank you!

From what I've read (particularly from the Weston A Price literature and site) if you take fermented cod liver oil (I believe they recommend the Green Pastures brand, because its not heat treated, but is cold pressed), the vitamin D is easily absorbed, with or without a gall bladder.

I've been meaning to get this fermented CLO, sounds like just what I need.

About Vitamin D, take every day, test show almost none is being absorbed, have read that without gallbladder you cannot absorb, only Sun which I only get a few months out of the year.

Also since gallbladder have had thyroid problems, and mouth problems, I really believe without gallbladder you are going to have to become major health crazy and never will have a normal life, we should all get together with Oprah and let the world know about this

Or maybe Dr. Oz. I watch his show daily because it keeps me motivated to be healthy. I do agree that you cannot go on with the same diet and maintain a healty weight. You can't even eat bad in moderation. The majority of you diet must be protein, fruits, and vegetables (90%) and the rest fats and sugar (10%).

Hello again,
I am in day 15 of the 28 day diet and I must say I have lost weight. I don't know how much because I let the way my clothes fit determine if I'm successful. I have to agree with one of the postings that you must maintain a low-carb, low-sugar, high protein diet. This also means watching your alcohol intake because your body will digest the alcohol before it digests the food. If there is too much alcohol to digest, your body won't get around to the food; the food will then be stored as fat. After the 28 day diet, I plan to do modify my diet and I will be sure to post everything that's worked for me. Once again, thank you ladies for all of your support.

Hi everyone. Beth here. I have to say, I weigh more NOW than before I began taking the $200 worth of stuff I bought at www.gallbladderattack.com. It's getting WORSE, not better. I'm going to print these messages out and take them to my doctor. I've never felt so miserable in my life. Never, ever, did I have a weight problem before my gallbladder was removed. I am furious! Especially when doctors say, "Hm. This is just anecdotal information. It's not empirical data." But look at the crowd on here suffering! We're not a bunch of whiners, we're smart women who want our figures back! I can't seem to budge from 168 pounds now. Horrors!!! I can't take much more of this nonsense. So glad to hear what the lady above wrote. She lost the weight, hooray! I would love to have a rundown of the things you do eat. Thank you all for your contributions. There is power in numbers! Beth xoxo

Well not only did I develop bile dumping after gallbladder surgery, I ALSO GAINED 35 POUNDS IN MY UPPER STOMACH, ONLY!! I use to have a uniform shape, then all of a sudden my upper stomach was out past my breasts, NICE RIGHT? NOT! I've added all the vitamins, the B's and omega fats and vitamin D, need to get that checked FOLKS, after surgery my Vitamin D levels plummeted to 9, the normal level is 22-100. The only way I found to lose weight is a high protein, low carb and low fat diet. It sucks and i'm tired of all the green stuff and chicken breasts and turkey and salads but I have lost the weight, still have the bile dumping, nothing has fixed that, the doctor prescribed questrin, I take 2 4grm packets a day, helps some. Hope this helps out there.

Hello all,
In my daily search to find out why I cannot lose weight, I just happened to do a search that involved gall bladder removal and found this blog. I read every single post because I was is amazement at the amount of women that are experiencing the same things. I had to go in a corner and cry because I finally found proof that it's not in my head, I'm not an over-eater or lazy, and my diet does not consist of just unhealthy food. I had my gallbladder removed in 2000, at the age of 30, and I have been at war with my weight ever since. My symtoms include constipation (which a doctor told me to just take Milk of Magnesia, for the rest of my life if need be), acid reflux, which has burned my esophagus, polyps found after a colonoscopy, and anemia, for (which my doctor could not give me the exact source of). Ten years later, I have gain about 30 pounds, been on several diets and exercised religiously. It gets to the point that you give up diets and exercising because you can't see results, or you even gain weight. This site has given me a few ideas on how to curb some of my symptoms and I will start today. Right now, cut my alcohol consumption to wine, twice a week and I'm in week one of The 28 Day Diet. So far, so good but other people that have done this diet have lost up to 12 pounds in week one (I've probably lost 2-4). I just want to thank Beth for starting this thread and those who told their stories. I am not crazy! There is something wrong with me! Now I can do something about it!
