Is there a natural remedy for getting rid of HPV?

Add a Comment4 Comments

There are many different strains (types) of HPV, and some strains are able to "clear up on their own" naturally from our immune systems fighting off the virus (much like the cold virus). Other strains of HPV can cause cervical changes or cause genital warts, and need to be medically treated.

Have you been diagnosed with HPV?
If so, what type (strains) of HPV have you been diagnosed with (or, what symptoms are you experiencing)?

The doctor I went to that originally diagnosed me with it seemed very uneducated about the subject. In fact, I had to do my own research and inform her! She was unable to tell me which strain I had. I had a lot of questions and concerns, some of which she answered, but at the end of the conversation she said "don't worry about it" because sometimes it clears on its own. This is crazy, because like you said some forms of HPV can lead to cancer. Needless to say, I am going to another doctor to address this issue and to find out what's going on for sure. I knew something was wrong when about a year ago I discovered a wart in my anal area. I had it surgically removed by the doctor, and hadn't experienced the same sort of wart since, until recently a tiny bump appeared on the lips of my vaginal area and it has been there for at least a month. Are you able to offer some advice?

Hi empowered_woman,

The good news about your genital warts are that most strains of HPV that cause genital warts do not cause cancer. There are just a few types of HPV that cause genital warts.

Did your doctor perform a HPV test? It feels similar to a Pap Smear, and only takes a few seconds for the doctor to take a swab from your cervix (to test the cells).

To help you in your research, I found the term for warts that appear in the genital area: condyloma acuminata (source: ACOG)
