Make sure that you are not the only person that he or she is around. Let others help. Occasionally, even let them have, say, breakfast with them alone, and you take some time if it is no more than just going out to the backyard working by yourself. But it also gives them a chance to talk to somebody else. It gives them a chance to hear a different perspective. They get to tell something that maybe you have heard the same story 99 times, but Joe has not. So when they tell it to him it is a new story. Just do not isolate.
