Life Coach Crystal Dwyer describes hypnotherapy and explains how it can help women lose weight.
Hypnosis can be a very powerful therapy for women trying to lose weight, but first let’s start off talking about what hypnosis is, or hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is actually hypnosis used therapeutically to address a specific issue. Hypnosis is just a deliberately induced trance state, and some people are a little afraid of hypnosis. They think, you know, the hypnotherapist will have some kind of power over them. There’s no way anybody can have any power over you.
Hypnosis is a natural state that we go through several times a day in coming out of sleep and going into sleep. All it is, is a state where our brainwave is slowed down in a fully conscious state; we are in a beta brainwave state. So, when we induce hypnosis we just induce a relaxed state which would drop us to an alpha state. Any deeper than that would be actually sleep, would be theta or delta, and we really try to avoid that.
Hypnosis is not sleep. It’s just a deliberately induced trance state to sort of disarm the conscious mind and get all of that, those thoughts, those incessant thoughts kind of out of the way so that we can utilize the power of the subconscious which is infinitely powerful and has a much larger storage capacity. We use the subconscious mind deliberately to get rid of things that are stored that we don’t like and introduce that what we actually want to be happening in our lives. So that’s what hypnosis is in a nutshell.
Now, as far as weight loss, hypnosis can be very powerful for weight loss. For most women, weight loss is somewhat like a roller coaster. They spend most of their lives going up and down kind of trying diets, fads, gimmicks, but they end up slipping back into their patterns, and the reason they slip back into the patterns is because those patterns were never addressed in the first place.
To have a shift in weight permanently you have to have a shift in consciousness first. Most people, most women especially, lose the weight, but they are still carrying all of the same belief patterns, all of those habits and tendencies. They just sort of hide them away for a while, and that’s why, for the most part, women are not permanently successful in their weight loss.
