Dr. Blackstone:

Adjustable gastric bands can be applied in certain very good risk patients, even in an outpatient setting where they actually go home the same day. But probably two-thirds of the patients have medical conditions where the safest place to operate on them is in the main hospital operating room, and then they stay overnight for 23 hours and go home the next afternoon.
