Another "Pregnant? or just Stress-induced missed period?" question

The start of my most recent period was on Feb 26 - projected ovulation date being March 14, projected next period March 28 (via MyMonthlyCycles, where I have been keeping track of my period for 1 year). Average cycle - 30 days.

We had protected intercourse on March 3 and 24. The condom didn't break; slipped down maybe an inch but we pushed it right back up.

Now my period is 3 or 4 days late (depending if you count the 28th), with no usual signs of cramping etc that I normally get. Took two HPT's and both came out negative. Discharge looks normal, no tenderness of breasts or anything. I have had a little bit of an upset stomach but I think I may just be getting sick - I am under quite a bit of stress.

I know it's unlikely that I am pregnant, but I am paranoid since I can't afford to have a child right now. I have heard that stress really can throw off a regular period (I have been regular for 8 years now), but I have a hard time believing it since I am so paranoid... help? I don't know what's wrong with me!

Have a GYNO appt coming up in a month, but I'm the type of person who likes to know without going to the doc! It sure would be nice if my period would come!

Ryan, she might want to wait even a few more days before going to the doctor -- 8 days is just not that late, truly. We have recently had several women who wrote in wondering if they might be pregnant, some have been up to two weeks late.

It happens when so much is going on -- stress, weather, a change in lifestyle, grief, etc. I am sure the First Response kit is an excellent one, and by this time, if she were pregnant, enough hormones would be showing up in her urine that it should show on the test.

Hang in there, and thanks for the update. You two are lucky to be good partners in this.

Well, don't freak out about it. You and your girlfriend need to discuss your options, should she be pregnant. You have to be willing to take responsibility for your actions, if you want to play the game.

Meanwhile, there's little you can do until you get a definitive answer, and that will be as a result of a test. She should also see her gynecologist ASAP. 5 days late would not be too terribly unusual, under her stressed circumstances. 1 month late would be cause for concern.

So sorry about her grandmother. I was close to mine, too.

Im just worried that she is pregnant. I really dont think she is im just hoping and praying that its the stress that is causing her to be late and that she is not pregnant.. I am really supportive of her and try to comfort her and make her unstressed, but i can only go so far and she needs to relax herself.

Thank you so much Diane…its so nice to finally have someone to talk to about this.
I really hope it is my period…its so strange though…normally I bleed very heavily. And I do have cramps right now, but they’re not as painful as the ones I normally have…its almost like a burning sensation…however since I began to bleed, the tenderness I felt in my breasts has decreased…I guess I just got so freaked out I was convincing myself that I was pregnant.
There is just one thing that still makes me question if I am pregnant or not…would that pregnancy test I took the morning I began to bleed pick up on the pregnancy hormone if what I am experiencing now is in fact implantation bleeding?
And as for my boyfriend and I planning to have intercourse, we have been talking about it, but after this scare, I don’t think I’m ready quite yet. But I do plan to start the pill and if we do engage in intercourse we’re going to use a condom.

Hi, Anon. So glad you found us here. Let's see what we can figure out for you.

From what you say, I would say chances are very very very slim to none that you are pregnant. If what you say is true -- that you were just touching skin to skin but that there was no penetration -- then the only way you could have been pregnant would be if he had some pre-ejaculate on his penis and had gotten it on his hands before he put his fingers inside you.

If your period started on April 22-23, and if your cycles are 28 days long on average, your fertile period would have been from May 2 to May 12. So you would be right on the outside edge of your fertile time when you were with your boyfriend.

I think that the bleeding that started 5/24 is probably your period. And yes, extreme stress can cause a light, irregular or heavy period, because our hormones are totally reactive to stress in our lives.

I think that your fears are probably not necessary. I would guess that you are on your period right now and that the end of the school year and the beginning of summer, warm weather and this new intimacy with your boyfriend are all making you stressed out.

But if you think that you might be planning on having intercourse with your boyfriend in the future, what will you do for birth control and/or protection from STDs? Have you thought this through? Can we help in any way?

Hey ladies
I really need some help right now…
I’m 16 years old and I think I may be pregnant.
I had my first “sexual encounter” on May 11, and 13...my boyfriend and I were touching eachother (skin to skin) but there was no intercourse. However, I’ve been terrified that he could have touched himself before he started to touch me since he did penetrate me with his fingers…I know that some sperm dies once it hit’s the air, but what are my chances that I could be pregnant?
I haven’t been any more tired than I normally am…but the in the past week my breasts have hurt very badly…but that could just be pms I guess…and right now I’m also sick…I have an upper repertory infection.
My cycle has been regular for the past 6 years. My last period started about the 22 or 23 of April and went away by the 26. I went out and bough 2 first response pregnancy tests…I took one Friday (5/22) and then one in the morning on Saturday (5/24)…both were negative. I did start to bleed yesterday (5/24) in the afternoon, and I thought it was my period, but then I realized its not as heavy as my normal flow…could this be implantation bleeding?
I don’t know how much of a factor this could be, but I’ve been under an extreme amount of stress this month with school and family…could that cause a light period?
I’m just so scared right now…sex is never talked about in my house and is kind of seen as taboo…I don’t know why but that’s just how it is…

HELP! I"m going through the same thing. Here's my problem, my boyfriend and I had sex at the very end of my period last month when it was extrememly light, but then once he penetrated i started bleeding heavily again. But, he only went in a couple of times, probably 3. After that, we used a condom everytime and only had sex probably 7 times and then just oral the rest of the month. I've been working more and still have my moodiness that I always get with my period. I take birth control and I worked late one night and missed a pill by 4-5 hours. I take my pills at 8 every single night and missed it once and took it at 12:30am. I missed the pill about 4 days before my expected period and two days after I started bleeding like my period but it wasn't a lot because it would only fill half a regular tampon. This happened for 3 days and then turned into an extremely light spotting. It's the 3rd day of my period and it still hasn't come yet but I have experienced my usual period like symptons, like back pain, fatigue, but like I said it's completely normal. I took 3 different home pregnancy tests, one 5 days before, one 3 days before period and one on the second day of my missed period and they were all negative. So, is it the stress at work that's stopping my period or is there still a chance I may be pregnant?? I always had irregular periods before but since I've been on birth control they've been pretty regular, but sometimes they'll start the first day of the reminder pills and somedays the sixth but lately they've been starting the 3rd day of the reminder pill. Someone please help reassure me so I don't stress so much! :(

Thanks ladies - my period came today, it was just over 1 week late :) Day 40 while I normally have a 30-day cycle. I did call them the other day, and now have the appt later this week, but so far I am breathing a sigh of relief.

Thanks for your help!
