Another "Pregnant? or just Stress-induced missed period?" question

The start of my most recent period was on Feb 26 - projected ovulation date being March 14, projected next period March 28 (via MyMonthlyCycles, where I have been keeping track of my period for 1 year). Average cycle - 30 days.

We had protected intercourse on March 3 and 24. The condom didn't break; slipped down maybe an inch but we pushed it right back up.

Now my period is 3 or 4 days late (depending if you count the 28th), with no usual signs of cramping etc that I normally get. Took two HPT's and both came out negative. Discharge looks normal, no tenderness of breasts or anything. I have had a little bit of an upset stomach but I think I may just be getting sick - I am under quite a bit of stress.

I know it's unlikely that I am pregnant, but I am paranoid since I can't afford to have a child right now. I have heard that stress really can throw off a regular period (I have been regular for 8 years now), but I have a hard time believing it since I am so paranoid... help? I don't know what's wrong with me!

Have a GYNO appt coming up in a month, but I'm the type of person who likes to know without going to the doc! It sure would be nice if my period would come!

hello! i have a simialar problem that you all have. i have very irregular periods where i'll have them regular for a couple months and then stop a month and then have another one and so one.. i'm 24. i havn't had sex in over a year but i do mess around with my bf alot. he has ejaculated close to me.. a little too close for my liking but i don't think any has ever gotten on or in.. i had my last period last month on the 8th and i usually have sore breasts 2 days before i get it.. this month i have got the sore breast so i figured i was going to have my period.. but it's been 4 days now with not even a sign. the only thing i have is sore breasts.. no cramping, no tiredness.. than usual, no headaches, no nothing.. i started looking up on the internet about what could be the problem and read about all the pregnacy stories and i am now freaking myself out. there is no way i can have a baby right now. today i now feel more tired and sortof fatigued but i think that is because i've been thinking about it so much and i havn't been hungry and havn' t been eating much. i am hoping that maybe it is late for no other reason than my irregular periods but i'm really scared about it and i know that it's only going to make things worse with my period starting and everything. maybe my sorness is just starting earlier than usual. i don't know. if anyone has any information for me i would be very greatful. thank you.

"Not having sex in over a year" at the same time as "messing around with my bf ejaculating close to me" does not sound truthful! You are 24, and must know that "sexual activity" that includes bodily fluids coming into contact with each other, as well as any type of genital-to-genital touching can lead to a chance of pregnancy. "Not having sex" is not exactly what you are doing; you are engaging in sexual activity that may not involve penetration...but his ejaculatory fluid contains semen, and if it comes into contact with your vulva or vagina, it can get inside your vagina.

Your chances of pregnancy are slim, if he is not ejaculating inside of you. There is a chance of pregnancy, however, if ejaculatory fluid is near your vagina. Have you considered using birth control pills or condoms, if there is no way that you can have a baby at this time?

You can take a home pregnancy test once you have missed your period; it is very effective at detecting a pregnancy.

im worried. im only seventeen and have been really stressed and exercising more this past month. i fool around with my boyfriend but he's never penetrated and we're both fairly certain no cum has ever gotten in or around my vagina. my period is actually messed up alot and sometimes i miss a month altogether but i always worry and stress myself out more, i really need some soothing words of truth to get me through the rest of today before i take a test.

I'm sorry you are worried; please let us know what the test says.

Have you considered using condoms or other birth control, so that you are not "always so worried and stressed?" That just does not sound like a fun way to live, and you can still have protected sex with your boyfriend without the fear.

Hi, Anon, and welcome to EmpowHer. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.

First, let me commend you for using two forms of birth control. That's very smart and I hope you continue to do it, because it helps prevent not only pregnancy but also sexually transmitted diseases between partners.

Second, on the birth control pills: If she only missed one pill, and she took it and her next pill the next day, she should be fine. Most birth control pills operate that way. So she did exactly the right thing by taking two pills when she remembered. Chances for an unwanted pregnancy are much higher when a woman misses two pills, not just one.

Third, I can't tell you her chances of being pregnant without knowing (a) whether her cycles are regular or irregular, (b) how long her cycles normally are, and (c) what day of her cycle it was when you had unprotected sex. If she has, for example, a 28-day cycle and she is regular, she probably usually ovulates sometime around days 12-13-14 of her cycle, and those are the most likely days to get pregnant. Sperm can live in a woman's body for 3-5 days, so the days ahead of ovulation are important as well. And the egg lives in the woman's body for 24-48 hours, so the couple of days after ovulation also count. I know that seems like a lot to keep track of, but basically if you just remember that the first two weeks after a woman's period are the most vulnerable to unprotected sex, that will help.

I have to say that three or four days late is no big deal. Even if a woman has a regular cycle, it's very common for her to occasionally go as much as a week or 10 days late with no particular reason. Hormones react to a lot of things -- stress, big changes in life, even changes in activity or medication. So it's quite possible that her period will come in a few days and you won't have to worry. If it doesn't come when she's a week late, you might buy a home pregnancy test and test to see what the results are.

Here's a page with frequently asked questions about abortion. They cost differently based on different things, the most common one being how far along the pregnancy is:

http://www.womensmedcenter.com/faqs/default.asp

And here's a Planned Parenthood site that says the cost of abortions in the first trimester usually range from $350 to $900:

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/abortion/in-clinic-abortion-procedures-4359.htm

Parental notification laws can very state to state. What state do you live in?

Hi,

i've been seeing my girlfriend fr a couple of months now and she decided to go on the pill. She has been taking it for about 2 mnths now. We have been using a condom aswell as the pill fr extra protection but one night we decided not to. This happened on the 19th ofJuly. 4 days ago she told me that about 4 days before this night she forgot to take the pill and took that days and the next at her usual time the next day!!! Her period was due Monday (26th)and it's now Thursday(29th) and she still hasn't got it.

I'm from a strict Christian fAmily where sex out Of marriage is frowned upon, whilst the idea pregnancy being incomprehensIble. We are both very young (her being 16) and the idea that she may be pregnant is devastating. First off what are the chances she is pregnant after taking her pill 20 odd hours late. Secondly we have discussed our options and are looking for information on abortion. Obviously morally this is extremely hard for us, and in some respects rather selfish, but at such a young age, especially in our situation religiously( we would be kicked out of our church and our lifes would b changed forever)
It seems like the only possible option. Obviously I am praying and strssing it doesn't come to that and it's all a scare but I wanna b prepared incase. I was wondering a)if she is 16 does she need parental consent for an abortion? B) how much do the usually cost???? I'm Being as supportive as possible, however I think I'm a whole lost more stressed then she is!!!/

thanks for you'd help

Hi, I'm worried that I am pregnant and I wanted some help. I've looked all around the internet but have failed to find anything similar to my situation. I'm 18 and my boyfriend and I just recently started having sex about two months ago. My period started on june 15 and ended on the 22nd so it should have come already but hasn't. We had unprotected sex around the 4th or so of july but he pulled out. I took a pregnancy test around the 13th because he was worried about me being pregnant, it was negative. but now, my period is late and I have taken 2 more tests. One on the 22nd and one today, both were also negative. Lately, I've been very emotional/moody and have been experiencing cramps; also, there has been a very light brown tint (only recently, and occassionally) whenever I wipe after peeing. I don't know if this is just spotting before my period or if it is implantation bleeding. I have been very stressed recently and I just got over a bladder infection and stopped taking medication for it on the 22nd.I have an appointment with my gynecologist for the 5th of August for a pap but I really would like some input. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hi i was having the same problem just like yours but it occurs that i wasnt pregnant... have you taken any pregnancy test at a clinic i think you should check yourself and ask for blood work as well as you may know sometime it doesnt come out in the urine and the best pregnancy test is from the blood........or maybe your just to stress about thinking a lot of this situation...maybe its a change in your body are you eating well exercising or any weight loss? those are common things that can lead to missed periods.. now are you planning to have any kids or you avoiding it? because if he did not enjeluated in you there is aslo pre enjeluted whch is rare that you may come out pregnant if it inserts inside the vagina...hope you keep your appointment for the 5th of august and i suggest you wait another week to try another test...keep me inform.hugs missred

Hi there

I am sitting at home having anxiety as I am a few days late with my period. I am 41 and have a regular 28-29 day cycle and have for the last 7 years. We use condoms every time. Last month I had terrible PMS with extreme breast and nipple tenderness as well as spotting prior to my period. This month I had very few PMS symptoms and am on day 31 with no signs of anything! I also know I have high estrogen and hypothyroidism. I have worked myself up enough that my stomach is so upset and I have not been able to eat much today. Any thoughts?
