More bariatric procedures have been done for adolescence now a days than ten years ago especially because we have an increase in obesity, a tremendous increase in obesity in our adolescent population. If you compare 1976 to 1982 – that period of time to 2003 to 2006, there is triple the amount of obese kids.

Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Dr. Podkameni started his general surgery training at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York in 1996. He then returned to Brazil, where he became board certified in general and pediatric surgery. Dr. Podkameni finished his minimally invasive/laparoscopy training at the Cleveland Clinic in 2004.
