Dr. Kim explains how O-arm® 3D imaging can significantly advance the spinal fusion procedure outcomes.

Dr. Kim:
One of the most challenging surgeries that we do are spinal fusions and we are constantly trying to improve that treatment outcome and that’s because that’s a relatively large operation and when we do that surgery it’s for patients that have severe pain and disability.

We can improve that outcome in part by doing the surgeries through minimally invasive techniques, and the minimal invasive techniques can be made safer and the surgeries can be made with smaller incisions when we know exactly where we are, and when we use three-dimensional O-arm® technology we can tell exactly where we are at any time doing the surgery and even before we start the surgery we can tell exactly where to make the skin incision so that we have the exact trajectory that we need to get to exactly where we need to get to without moving tissues to one side or the other. And in that sense the O-arm® technology will hopefully improve the outcomes of fusion surgeries in patients that need that procedure.
