Has anyone experienced popping in your knees? If so, did you find out what was causing the popping? What was the treatment?

This is interesting!

I've had very loud popping in my knees since I can remember; the kind that everyone turns to look at me, then winces with an audible "ouch" sound and asks me, "doesn't that HURT?!". This happens every time I squat down quickly in both knees.

Since there is no pain involved, I've always thought it was similar to when people crack their knuckles...it feels either slightly good or neutral. It's never bothered me; just has embarrassed me a few times (other times it's been a good attention-getter...ha ha!).

Is the knee-popping similar to knuckle-cracking?

Another woman at EmpowHer.com is actually wearing a knee brace because she has experienced some popping in her knee when she stands up. Don't believe there's any pain, just an occasional pop.

From what I have read, popping has less to do with arthritis than perhaps a tear in the ligaments.

An orthopedic doctor would be the best bet for anyone experiencing this. Are you? Is there pain with the popping or is it just an occasional pop?
