My feet, legs, and joints are stiff in the morning why?

Wow I am having nearly the same condition. My feet, legs, and knees hurt all the time. But it is worse in the morning, and I am stiff as a board when I get out of bed. It does gradually get better throughout the day. I am 5'6 160lbs. But it always still hurts, when I sit or stand in one position for more than 15minutes it gets worse. My muscles tighten, they become stiff. I can't walk down stairs (I can go up, my knees just make creeking sounds). This all started last May, when my right knee swelled up really big (no injury) then fluid traveled all over in my leg, mostly the way gravity took it, to my ankle. I had no insurance at then time, so I had some crutches at home from my Grandfather, I used those because I couldn't walk. It took a week or do for the swelling to go away. I was scheduled to be out of country in July for a month visiting family, so I went even with my leg bothering me (I could walk again at this point). I was there two weeks and got Shingles, I flew home with it and got trated for it. I still can't walk well, and all of my "old" injuries hurt too, like my pinky finger I broke in 4th grade. I strech still daily, and exercise even though it is extremely painful. It hurts so bad I developed a jaw clinching thing I do it constantly, that hurts too (but not nearly as bad). Any ideas of what the heck is going on with my body? Oh I forgot to mention I went to an orthopedic surgeon, and he told me to lose some weight, he sent me for an xray of my right leg, since that is where it all started, and I haven't been back. The xray was negative.

Hi Everyone it's JenB. I just want to tell everyone my progress since Feb 2009. My stiffness got worse everyday, to the point where I could even walk. Finally, I was able to get to a Doctor that would listen me, and shortly after was diagnosed with RA. I can't tell you how many times before that I tested negative for RA. About mid-year of 2009, I began taking Simponi, and methotrexate. It sent my RA into remission. I have been able to walk, jog, hike, and climb. I just got back from the Sierras (California), where I climbed Mt. Brewer. Ladies, there is HOPE!!! Don't give up, it took SEVERAL doctors that told me, nothing is wrong with you, and then finally I found a doctor who listened and took notes about my medical history, and family medical history for 2 hours!!! It is rare to find a doctor like that, God was looking out for me. I thank him everyday for my health. Also, I made a career change, and became a Massage Therapist, seeking to help others with RA, Fibromalgia and other diseases. I have made it my mission in life to educate others on the disease, and help ease their pain through massage therapy. I know massage helped me with pain, and emotionally a stress reliever.

Sorry, I meant on my thread, that I couldn't even walk. I'm so glad to see that many people read this thread and sought help. I'm a firm believer in Massage Therapy, as I am now a Massage Therapist. It has helped me a lot, along with medication., and healthily diet.

I believe the original poster and some commenters could be suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). I have it, and it reduced me to an invalid for nearly 3 months at my worst outbreak. The solution for me was an extreme low carb and low pH diet for 2-3 weeks. Only then could I reduce the inflammation and allow myself to properly heal and break the cycle. This condition is not common, but not uncommon either, presenting itself in a few individuals per thousand. Yet it is not well known. Multiple doctors, PTs, and chiropractors failed to notice it in me, in a big city with lots of otherwise knowledgeable and competent medical professionals. For more a good place to start is wikipedia and kickas.org

Hi having read through the above posts, i now know i'm not alone. I suffer from painful feet, legs knees and shoulder. I am 50. also did elimination diet for stomach probs. which diagnosed with irratable Bowel. I did find coffee and milk were a problem. I also take ompetaprozole for gastris. What i find is that most of us are around menopause age is there a link with this? My friend suggested that painful joints might be helped with HRT. I have just had tests to rule out Thyroid and a general full count test. I will try Zyflemend as others have had good results Thank you.

Hate to weigh in so late, but this may be something to give review of. I've had ongoing problems with knees and stiffness, eventually couldn't stoop, and developed damage at L5/S1. It causes stiffness which in turn causes other symptoms and eventually grows painful, as muscles stop allowing normal motion, and motion decreases, adding to discomfort and pain. I am very close to Knee replacement, and the orthopedic surgeon was scratching his head about tight ACL(s) and Hamsting(s), and after learning I had sleep apnea and Back damage he really backed off knee surgery, as when I told him I was wanting to get the mobility back, he was 100 % sure the back was causing stiffness, not the knee(s). Sleep Apnea can contribute also for lack of oxygen to legs during sleep.

I'm in my early 60's and have been difagnosed with SJOGREN'S SYNDROME, OSTEOARTHRITIS, THREE BAD DISCKS ( lower back) and FIBERMYALGIA. lATELY, BESIDES THE "NORMAL" ARTHRITIC PAIN IN MY BACK AND NECK, I HAVE TERRIBLE PAIN IN MY FEET WHEN WALKING. MY LOWER BACK HURTS AS WELL. I GO TO THE LOCAL YMCA THREE TIMES A WEEK DOING WATER EXCERCISES WHICH REALLY SEEMS TO HELP BUT SOME DAY LIKE TODAY, NOTHING SEEMS TO HELP MY BACK AND FEET PAIN. VICODEN DOES HELP SOMEWHAT BUT I DON'T WANT TO TAKE IT TOO OFTEN AS I KNOW IT'S ADDICTIVE! DO EITHER FIBERMYALGIA OR SJOGREN'S CAUSE FOOT PAIN?

I was really sick ;and didnt know what was happening to me;thought I was having menapause again;stiff after sitting, sleeping;when I started grounding myself to the earth;walk around barefooted and disconected wi-fi wireless I started to get well. Research wi-fi and hormones ;and you will see. Wi-fi is not allowed in many countries because it is said to be a health problem. Inflamation is caused by not being grounded;Dr.Sinatra on u tube explains it.Hope this helps.
