Here is some information for you; I'm sorry you are still in the hospital, but at least you have a laptop and time to read (trying to look at the positive side). :-)

Let us know what follow-up questions you have, if any, after reading through some of this information, and you can also ask your doctor when you see her again.

- Personal Story: "After my Fibroid, My Post-Op Story"

- VIDEO (sound is on!): Personal Story: Kristian shares if she suffered in silence with her uterine fibroids

- Medical Expert, Dr. LeBlang: Fibroids, Where are they located?

- Encyclopedia: Uterine Fibroids

- Uterine Fibroids.

- American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG): Uterine Fibroids Patient Brochure (helpful treatment options)

It may be helpful to see what topic(s) interest you, as you will most likely want to know a few things and ask your doctor:
- do fibroids reoccur?
- if so, what can I do to prevent fibroids from reoccurring?
- what side effects can I expect from any of the recommended treatment/prevention methods?
- how often do I need to be seen by my Gyn, in the short- and long-term?
- do fibroids increase my risk for any other health conditions in the future, that I need to be aware of?

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any follow-up questions, or if you don't understand something...we can provide additional information or do some research if your doctor says something that you don't understand.

Best wishes!

my parents are very busy people and dont have a durastic amount of time to pay attention to me (they r both lawyers)
i'm probably going to go to the doc that has been consulting on my case during this, she is nice and doent treat me like child like the rest of my doctors. but how often should i see her?

and to your other question i had an "intermural fibroid" one was like inside of the muscle(this was the one that ruptured), they had to go threw my stomach to actually get it out. and another was "submucasal" that was taken out with the d&c/hysteroscopy

Great, I'm glad to hear that you like your doctor, and feel respected by her.

Your doctor will let you know how often you need to be seen. Most women need to go at least once/year just for their "annual exam", but you will most likely need to be seen more frequently throughout your adulthood. In the immediate-term, your doctor will let you know how often she wants to see you, to make sure your procedures were successful and that you are healing well.

I hope you hear from other women who have had a intramural fibroid and a submucosal fibroid; I can do some research into these conditions if you would like more information (versus personal stories).

Billiegirl,
I am so glad that you are doing OK, and were able to get to the doctor in time. I'm so curious why your parents did not believe you that something was really wrong, but maybe that is not worth hashing out.

Will you be seeing a Gynecologist on a regular basis? If so, let us know if you need any help in finding one in your area (I'm sure your Pediatrician and/or family members will have good recommendations). Please know that after you meet with this doctor, it is important that you feel that you have a good rapport with this doctor, and that s/he will listen to you, and that you can feel comfortable calling his/her nurse. Just because your current doctor, mom, aunt, friend...whomever...recommends someone, they may be an excellent doctor but unless you have a good rapport with them (feel like they listen to you, and not treat you like a "child"), then they are not an excellent doctor for YOU. We can help either way.

As Susan said, I hope other women who have gone through this can share their experience. Can you tell us what kind of tumor you had, so other women can respond with the exact same diagnosis?

Take care, and thank you so much for updating us. I'm so happy to hear that you are listening to your body, and advocating for yourself.

hi, i almost decided not to go bcuz i was soo scared but my boyfriend noticed that i was almost crying in pain during math class so he forced me to go, i am at the hospital right now (lap top) we have been here for 5 hours, we waited in the waiting room for just about 2 and a half hours (that sucked so bad but i still had my laptop, so not as much suckageness) then they took me back. my doc did a pelvic exam (i know what it is now, not so fun) but it hurt a lot so she said she could not really get a good idea of what was going on so she waited for pain meds to kick in (about this time my parents came, my bf explained to them what was going on and right now they are here), then they did a blood test and found i was anemic so they gave me iron supplements, and some drug to make the blood stop. but im still bleeding so my doc just told me about 15 minutes ago that she is going to do a d&c (im terrifyed but my bf is trying to calm me down) she said that in about a half hour she is going to do it ;(

Billiegirl,

I'm so glad that your boyfriend insisted on you going to the hospital, and I am so glad that you are getting good care (even though I know that waiting is a pain!!!)

I hope that your boyfriend was able to help you calm down and that the pain meds kicked in so that the d&c would go smoothly. Please come back and update us when you can. I hope that your parents are paying good attention to the doctors but if you need to, take notes or have your boyfriend take notes on whatever the doctors say so that you can remember it later.

Talk to you soon, billiegirl. We are all thinking of you here.
