Q:

Venous lake on my lip

I have this dark blue/purple lesion on my lip that keeps getting bigger. I went to see the dermatologist and she said that it's a venous lake. She said it was nothing I had to worry about. Does anyone else have one or know of someone who does? If so, what was your/their treatment?

Hello- My treatment with the Cutera laser only took two quick zaps. I didn't even feel it because the doctor had me hold an icepack to my lip for several minutes before he did the treatment. But I was very nervous because I had laser treatment done on my face previously for Rosacea and it was extremely painful but worth it;) -Judi

Hmmmmm..... Judi, interesting that he had you hold an ice pack to your lip prior to your procedure. I wonder if that makes a difference? It makes me wonder if the area to zap would be reduced in size by the constriction of the blood vessels; so the laser could be more precise? Certainly food for thought. This is why this forum is so great because we can see what has worked (or not) for many of us.

Thanks girls!! I'm not sure, but I think the laser they use in the hospital I'm going to go is called "cynosure", or Neod-Yag. I'll ask about Cutera though. I have another question: is the laser treatment painful? I'm doing laser epilation and it is really painful in certain areas, which makes me be a bit scared of the idea of having my lip lasered! thanks again, speak soon.

I haven't heard of the cynosure/Neod-Yag. As far as being painful, any responses will be subjective as we all have different reactions to pain but you asked so here goes: I would guess that most lasers feel about the same as they use a concentrated beam of light to cauterize the vessels but that is only my layman's guess. I didn't know what to expect so was pleased that it wasn't an excruciating experience. It felt like a rubber band snap on a much much m-u-c-h smaller scale. After the procedure I felt like I had a fat lip (it does swell and develop a blister) but I wouldn't say it was uncomfortably painful (for me). I felt a tingling sensation afterwards along with a sunburn-like sensation that subsided the next day. I will be curious to see how your procedure goes so I hope you let us know and also to follow up maybe a couple of months later and let us know if you are happy with the results. Hope that helps! Don't worry!

Many thanks Holly. I'm more calmed since it seems to be an easy procedure. I have an appointment next week, I'll let you know. As I said, what worries me is the healing process, hope its smooth and without complications. Another questions: is it necessary to have several laser treatments? isn't it enough with one? what kind of laser did they use, Holly?
Thanks again!

I had the V-Beam Laser. I have had several treatments, four total I believe, the last three were with the V-Beam and scheduled 6 weeks apart (my dermatologist had the laser and it's team brought to his office every 6 weeks). The VL is still there, a little less noticeable but not gone. If I was to get another treatment I am going to ask about the Cutera Laser. Several people who have posted here have had success with it. What type of laser they use may depend on several factors; depth, size, location etc.
I wouldn't worry about the healing process, no one here has posted a horror story. Just keep it well lubricated and you'll be fine.
Your biggest worry should be how are you going to handle looking at that beautiful lip when it is gone?! Good luck and write back and let us know how it went.

Hello Holly- I was one of those people who used the Cutera Cooltip laser. I think it has been over a year now and there is absolutely no sign of where I had the venous lake. Not even by touch. Glad to hear that you found the Vbeam as a viable option. I think on both ways you just need a good doctor who has a lot of experience with the type of laser you choose and the different types of tips for different procedures. Word of mouth goes a long way//*-*\\ Judi

Judi, I'm glad you wrote and gave an update about your experience. It sounds to me that the Cutera has been the most successful of the laser treatments. Although my VL is reduced in size, it is not gone after 4 treatments. I will certainly ask about the Cutera. You are right when you say you need a good doctor who has experience. There is nothing like feeling you are part of an experiment for a procedure.
