Elisabeth:
Hi, my name is Elisabeth. I am a patient of Dr. Ramin Raiszadeh. I had an L5 pars fracture, and Dr. Ramin Raiszadeh performed an L5-S1 fusion, and I want to share my story with you today.
I all of a sudden started having some back pain. I have never had any back pain. I have been pretty active my whole life. I swam, I did gymnastics, and all of a sudden, I started having some pain. I went to my doctor, and they didn’t know what was wrong. They thought maybe just pulled something, sent me to physical therapy. To make a really long story short, I did physical therapy for six months; still had no relief; started having pain down my leg, started losing feeling in my leg.
And it wasn’t until I went to my primary care physician—can’t even tell you how many times—and I started losing the reflexes in my leg that she sent me to Dr. Raiszadeh, and then he, as soon as I went to him, diagnosed me with an L5 pars fracture and tried everything for about at least eight months not to do surgery.
We did a lot of tests. So Dr. Raiszadeh suggested that I get a second opinion because I was concerned about having surgery. I wanted to try everything before I had surgery, and he also was interested in doing everything before surgery.
So I went and had a second opinion, completely agreed with Dr. Raiszadeh, and I even talked to a patient of his. That was his suggestion also, so I could be more comfortable. I talked to her, and my husband and I finally decided that surgery was the best option for me, and in December of this past year I had an L5-S1 fusion.
