Lisa recalls the food that she has learned worsens her Crohn's disease symptoms.

Lisa:
They don’t think it’s really food that causes Crohn’s and that’s part of the frustration of having this disease. They don’t know what causes it. It’s probably a genetic disease and I think their researchers are calling it a bacterial disease and in a nutshell, your body has both good bacteria that you’d find in like a yogurt, and bad bacteria, and your body doesn’t know the difference between the two.

So, you can have explosive bacteria in your body, good or bad, and it's confusing, and your body starts fighting itself. So basically my stomach is fighting against itself, whether it be good or bad bacteria.

In terms of food, they don’t really think it’s food. My doctors let me eat whatever I want, but you probably want to stay away from things like corn, nuts, popcorn, things that are hard to digest, but I don’t think food has anything to really do with it. I think it’s a bacterial disease.

Let’s also not forget that Crohn’s is an autoimmune disease and it can make you, just when you’re sick, you just have no resistance to anything. You could get pneumonia, you could have a heart, I worry about later in my life with just a common cold, what that’s going to do to me because I have an autoimmune disease like Crohn’s.

I have had Crohns decease for the past 30 years until it was diagnosed with a GLUTEN intolerance which meant a complete change in dieet. Since I changed to eating "gluten free products", I felt much better had regular stools, and have not had a relapse of my Crohns decease.
