I did not speak to any support groups up until that point, and I wished I had spoken to some of the groups that are available before I went into surgery, because I really didn’t know what to ask. I didn’t know what to ask my doctor. I didn’t really know what to expect. I didn’t know about the surgeries on the legs to take the veins; I knew they were going to take veins but I didn’t know from where.

I was totally unprepared for what they were going to do, and I was unprepared for the amount of pain that I felt when I came out of surgery.
