Dr. Dugoua shares what supplements would be beneficial for pregnant women during their second trimester.
A woman in her second trimester would continue with the supplements I would have put her on in her first trimester which is usually a fish oil, a probiotic and a prenatal and folic acid. So they will take that throughout the pregnancy. The folic acid to prevent neural tube defects, but also at the same time folic acid has been found to prevent a lot of childhood cancers when you give it to the mom.
Fish oils, we give it because what we found is that the babies are more likely to have higher IQs when you give fish oils to the moms. Also when you give them when they’re breast feeding too, better cognitive function and so on. So we just load them up throughout the entire pregnancy and help with brain development. Brain development happens from day 1 all the way to the end of pregnancy.
