Listen as Dr. Dahiya describes the incisionless bariatric procedure.
Dr. Dahiya:
We are, from open surgery, big, long incisions, we have gone to tiny little cuts which are laparoscopic, and now we are going the third step that we can put the scopes into the mouth. And the instrumentation has developed to a point, the gadgetry is coming of age slowly, that we can put the scope in and we can look with the scope how big your pouch is. And we can, like a seamstress, we can stitch it from inside so it’s like a imbrication or crocheting, whichever word you like that, you know, the pouch that’s maybe about this size then becomes like this size. And that’s all done through the mouth. There are couple of companies; there are two different instrumentation. In and out procedure; so far the experience is that it works good.
