My bf and I had unprotected sex right atfer I just ended my period I took plan B pills and the next day I got my period again even though I just had it 3 days earlier. But now I still haven't gotten my period. Is it possible that I'm just late?

Can anyone please help me? I'm thinking I'm just going to get my period really late. Or is it possible that I am pregnant? Answers asap please.

Hi, Cowboys1991,

That bleeding was a result of the emergency contraception. It is very common. Basically what the morning-after or Plan B pills do is to give your body an extra shot of hormones and make your uterus shed its lining (which would keep any fertilized egg from implanting). Those hormones can also be responsible for the breast tenderness, etc.

Your next period -- or two -- may be irregular. That's common, too. It may be that your next period comes a month after this withdrawal bleed. So don't fret if a month goes by before you start again.

Does that help?

Me and my boyfriend had sex w/ 2 days after my period stopped him only wearing a condom. The condom broke and so the next day I got Next Choice. A week later I experienced some bleeding, which I thought was a period. Except it was lighter than normal but not so light that it couldn't have been a period("breakthrough". I'm expecting my period any day now but I'm scared I'm not getting it? Is it possible that I get my period a month AFTER my "breakthrough" bleeding?

Are you talking about two different scenarios? This is what I understand from your question:

1. Your period ended on a Thursday, you started a new pack of pills on that Monday (I assume you did not skip any active pills?), and then started ANOTHER period only 11 days later. Is that correct? Is this referring to April? Did you have unprotected sex, or are you using birth control?

I'm wondering if you mean by "the pill" you mean your birth control pills that you take regularly, or the emergency contraception pill?

2. This month, your period was expected on May 5th or May 12th...either way it is May 17th and no sign of a period. You said your periods are usually irregular, so yes, this can be normal to have a late, or even missed, period. Are you worried about a pregnancy? If so, you can take a home pregnancy test (when did you last have unprotected sex?).

Birth control pills can help regulate your cycle, so I'm not sure what you mean by "mess up" your cycle. Emergency contraception pill can alter your cycle for a few months, causing an early period or late period. It can also cause breakthrough bleeding (bleeding in between periods).

Let me know if this information helped answer your questions. If not, if you could clarify your question, that would be helpful.

I mean the moring after pill the emergency contraception pill...

I finished my period in the 25th of march. I then had unprotected sex on the 27th of march. I then took the morning after pill on the 29th of march.

I got my period then on the 5th of april.

My period is normaly a month and a week its a long cycle but not regular.. and therefore i expected my period any time between the 5th an 12th of may and still no sign of it i am just woundering is this normal?
and i am NOT using birth control..

I mean does the emergancy pill "mess up" your cycle i mean does it alter your cycle can it make your period late? is it normal for my second period after taking the morning after to be late?

im am just worring myself?

I finished my period on thursday, had sex on the saturday and then i took the pill on the monday.

The next monday i got my period it lasted until thursday.

I expected my period to come on the 5th of may but normally my period is a month and a week its not regular so i thought it would come on the 12th of may and its still not here...

Is this normal?
Am i just worring to much?
Or is this just because of the pill? Does it mess up your cycle?

Please get back to me asap..

Hi, my name is Dawn. My last period started around March 30 or April 1, I don't remember exactly. I know we moved on April 3 and I was on my period. I had been using Nuvaring but my prescription expired like in January and I haven't scheduled an appointment for my exam yet to get it renewed. On April 18 my husband's spermicidal condom leaked, so we went right away to get Plan B one step. I took the pill within about an hour. About a week later I started bleeding, not as heavy or long as a normal period but it was as heavy and long as the periods I would have when using Nuvaring. I checked the side effects of Plan B and saw it can effect your period. Also, I didn't have any PMS symptoms before bleeding (tender breasts, bloating, etc.) which I normally have before a normal period, although on the other hand, I didn't experience PMS symptoms when I was using Nuvaring either. Today I took a Pregnancy test and it was negative (3 and 1/2 weeks after taking Plan B). Is it possible that the pregnancy test could be wrong? Am I safe in believing I'm not pregnant, so I can stop worrying about it?

It sounds like you did everything right--you were not using hormonal contraception any longer, and used a condom. However, it sounds like your husband did not withdraw his penis quick enough (while it was still erect) and/or did not hold the base of the condom tightly enough...so the condom leaked some. (sorry..that sounded like I was blaming him, and I'm not! This is common for many couples!). So, taking Plan B is the next smart step.

As you mentioned, Plan B does have side effects of effecting your period for a few cycles; it can cause your period to start earlier or later than expected. It can also cause breakthrough bleeding, which is bleeding in-between periods. Taking Plan B is great in helping to prevent pregnancy when other birth control fails, but it makes it difficult to know when you had your "real" period so you can stop worrying about being pregnant!

Since your LMP (last menstrual period) was April 1st, and this is now May 13th, you would have expected your period by now. So, any home pregnancy test would be about 99% accurate at detecting any "pregnancy hormones" if you were pregnant.

The bleeding that occurred a week after you took Plan B may have been an early period, or it may have been breakthrough bleeding. Your next menstrual period may also be irregular and "off" schedule, with or without your usual PMS.

Does this information help? You can be fairly confident in the test results from your home pregnancy test since you have taken it AFTER you would have already expected your period, and it has been over 3 weeks since your last sexual intercourse with birth control that may have failed.

hi me and my gf had sex on Sunday may 9th and we used a condom but i kinda cummed inside her with the condom on and when i took it out i dont think the condom broke but the condom was really wet so i dont know if it was her or cause the cum somehow slipped out. so i gave her a plan b one step the next day on monday. and on tuesday she said her breasts are swollen is this suppose to happen? i heard that you can tell if the pill is effective when she starts bleeding but that didnt happen. i want to ask what are her chances of getting pregnant?

Hi, Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHer, and thank you for your question.

Most likely, first of all, the condom was wet because your girlfriend was lubricated while you were having sex. Condoms are made to handle ejaculation and you didn't see any breaks or tears in the condom, so I think you're probably fine there.

However, just in case, she took the Plan B pill. Sometimes women don't bleed at all, and others don't bleed until about a week after they take the pill.

Here's a good explanation of how Plan B works:

http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/thehumancondition/archive/2009/08/25/how-plan-b-works-six-things-you-always-wondered-about-emergency-contraception.aspx

In answer to your other question, breast tenderness IS a side effect of Plan B. Here's the Plan B page on drugs.com. You can scroll down and see the list of possible side effects:

http://www.drugs.com/plan-b.html

With all that you've said, I think her chances of being pregnant are very very low.

Does that help?
