Venous lake on my lip

I have this dark blue/purple lesion on my lip that keeps getting bigger. I went to see the dermatologist and she said that it's a venous lake. She said it was nothing I had to worry about. Does anyone else have one or know of someone who does? If so, what was your/their treatment?

The VariLite will also work on your venous lake. However, it may take a couple treatments. Where as Cutera's 1064 Nd YAG should only require one treatment but it really depends how how large and deep it is. But yes, the VariLite will work very well. Which city and state do you live in?

Gone with the Varilite Diode Laser! I went to a Board Certified Oral MaxilloFacial Surgeon in Richmond that has extensive experience with Venous Lakes. After further research, it's Oral Surgeons that use this type of soft tissue laser for Venous Lakes. What's great about the laser is that you have an immediate result. He kept firing at it until it turned white/gray. There was a small dark center that took about 2 weeks to completely fall off. I'm left with a very very tiny piece of white scar tissue that you can only see if you stretch the skin. The Dr that treated me is Dr. Joseph Niamtu in Richmond if anyone is interested. He's extremely experienced with this procedure and has a great bedside manner. He followed up with me with emails and calls. He was great!

What I'm shocked about is that so-called dermatogical or plastic laser surgeons never heard of this laser. Here are some medical articles, dental websites and Dr. Niamtu's site on this procedure for Venous Lakes: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2957073/

I'm in the Washington, DC metro area. I can do Rockville, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Baltimore, MD..... DC, northern VA. I've called every provider on the Cutera website listed and they don't use the Coolglide for venous lakes...Only lasear hair removal. I want to make sure I go to someone who has a lot of experience with venous lakes on the lip.

The doctors who you have called may not have the vascular option on their laser. Stick with the appointment you have where they use the VariLite.

Have you heard about Diode lasers for venous lakes? I see that it's an effective treatment as well.

After scouring this site as well as others, I was desperate to fix my failed VBeam laser treatments for my venous lake. The VBeam made the skin around the lake bulge slightly and had just a little blanching of the skin. After countless hours of research, it looked the 1064 laser w/cooling would work. I went to a prominent laser surgeon in Washington, DC who agreed the 1064 would be the best approach. I'm on day 3 and it looks terrible. It's bigger, bulging and very dark with I think is bruising around the bulge. I've been reassured that the healing can take 4-6 weeks and that all the changes to the vascular area are happening but it takes a while. While I've read many success stories, I haven't heard any comments on the recovery period. Did most of the laser patients get bruised or cause the venous lake to get bigger? How long did it take for you to see results? I'm freaking out. I should have done nothing about the VL. It was relatively small and no one noticed it but me.
Please help!! What should I expect with my recovery? I'm so embarrassed to walk out of the house!

Find a physician that uses the Cutera 1064 ND YAg Laser, it will treat your Vl in typically one treatment. You can locate a physician here, http://cutera.com/aesthetic-treatment-locator.php?PHPSESSID=cjhbsafr9j4nh77ij9e6bpe064

I am a 64 year old male and have had this lesion for at least 10 years but now only just discovered what the mark on my lip is called. My GP did not seem to take much notice but my dentist was concerned in case it could be cancerous. It has not caused me any problem although other people notice it but do not usually comment. I don't think I will do anything about trying to get it removed.

I am the flutist who left a comment on April 14, 2010, describing a venous lake at the corner of my upper lip. It grew to almost the size of a small pea and made me very self-conscious. Starting in early 2011, I had a series of V-beam laser treatments, each involving two laser zaps. The first few treatments were done 4 months apart, at fairly low power, and didn't achieve any lasting results. I then had several high-power treatments at 3- or 4-week intervals, and the venous lake is now totally gone. It has been 3 months since my last treatment, and my lip is completely smooth and normal looking. The laser zaps were so quick, they were hardly uncomfortable at all with topical anesthesia. Afterward, my lip would swell and appear slightly pale, but it was never painful, nor did I have any blistering or bruising. My treatments were done by Dr. Paul Friedman, a dermatologist who has offices in Houston and New York City. I recommend him very highly. The treatments cost about $400 each and were not covered by insurance, but the expense was well worth it to me. Every time I look in the mirror, I am amazed at how normal my lip looks. Also, Dr. Friedman assured me that flute playing neither causes venous lakes nor makes them worse.

Dear Flutist,
I had a laser treatment 7 weeks ago and it looks actually worse. Can you tell me if with each treatment you saw progress? Did it look like it was getting worse at any time? I just can't believe this thing won't go away. I've had 4 laser treatments in the last 5 months and it looks worse, not better.

Thank you,
Anon
