Dr. Dao explains if Chinese medicine can be used to treat a woman’s sexual health problem.
Dr. Dao:
Chinese medicine has been used to treat sexual functions for thousands of years.
Menopausal issues frequently is a major issue for a lot of women’s complaint in the sense that they are becoming more drier vaginally, their libido goes down, their sensitivity level is down. They are just not like what they used to be.
So a lot of times what we do is really trying to restore their energetic, their sexual energy by really stabilizing their hormone levels and trying to help to see if we can help them with the vaginal dryness, trying to manage their vaginal dryness – that’s a major issue.
Also libido - now frequently when you go through menopause, this really in some ways should be the most liberating time in your life.
This is a time when you are free of menstruation. This is really somewhat a freedom, but also that freedom comes with a little bit of price.
And that price is that you have decreasing hormones. The way to really treat this is to really stabilize the hormones and look at ways that we can improve and increase one’s health capacity.
So what we would do is we will usually prescribe some herbs and some acupuncture treatment and also prescribe a set of exercises a woman can do to help, to really strengthen their sexuality.
So that’s what we do in traditional Chinese medicine.
