Dr. Berkus:

Binging eating disorder is not a formal criteria in what psychiatrists use the DSM IV is their bible of diagnostics, but it is under the back of the DSM IV in the ‘under investigation’ categories, and this is a person that at least twice-a-week will eat an abnormally large amount of food over a six-month period, and what that means is that they may binge at home, which is probably the most common, they may go to a store and buy things to binge on at home, but what’s important wherever they are binging is a feeling of fear and loss of control over what’s going in their body, and most people will say they binge to numb their feelings and a lot of time they don’t even taste what they are eating.
