Dr. Wright:

Well, obviously when a woman is suffering from anything, but especially cancer, her illness is going to, again, it becomes systemic. Her suffering radiates throughout the family, and so it’s really important that more than ever, if there’s a compassionate component in her ability to first communicate with herself, and no blame, shame, or guilt about her condition in the prognosis and the duration of her recovery.

There’s no shame, blame, or guilt in that so that when she is communicating to her family, it’s a process communication. It’s not a stagnant, “This is the way it’s going to be,” terrible communication. There needs to be humor, and some of the silly things that happen while we are in recovering from cancer and cancer treatment.
